About The Role
Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and families?
The Edge of Care service is dedicated to safely prevent and reduce the number of children and young people entering care. We do this by providing direct and intensive support to children aged 8-18 years old and their families in their homes over a period of 4-12 weeks and beyond, and we are looking for a motivated and experienced Project Workers to join our team.
We understand that family life is not easy and sometimes relationships break down. Our service works with families to try and understand what has led to the breakdown of the relationship and support them to repair and move forward.
We work with families experiencing significant challenges and with children who may be at risk of entering care. As a result, our approach focuses on delivering intensive, relationship-based support tailored to each family's needs. This includes regular home visits, typically on a weekly basis, with increased contact and intervention during periods of crisis.
The role involves working with families facing a range of complex circumstances, including domestic abuse, mental health difficulties, substance misuse, child-to-parent aggression, and safeguarding concerns. You will also support children and young people with significant additional needs, including neurodiversity, and those affected by trauma resulting from abuse, bereavement, loss, or bullying. The successful candidate will demonstrate resilience, empathy, and the ability to engage effectively with families to achieve positive and sustainable outcomes.
We tailor our support to each family's unique needs. Examples of the support we offer include:
• Supporting families to develop healthier and more effective communication skills.
• Helping families identify triggers and reflect on events and behaviours to promote positive change and prevent future difficulties.
• Providing practical strategies to support the management of conflict, escalation, and de-escalation within the family home.
• Encouraging greater understanding of individual needs, perspectives, and experiences within family relationships.
• Promoting self-care and wellbeing for both children and parents/carers.
• Supporting families to understand the impact of trauma and how it may influence behaviour, relationships, and emotional responses.
• Helping children, young people, and parents/carers to recognise and meet emotional needs through co-regulation, emotional awareness, and relationship-based approaches.
