This is an exciting opportunity to help shape how partners work together to provide earlier, more effective and joined-up help for children and families across Birmingham. As part of the national reforms to Children’s Social Care, Birmingham is developing new approaches to Family Help and Multi-Agency Child Protection. At the heart of this is our ambition to strengthen Early Help and build a joined-up partnership offer within our districts, making it easier for families to get the right help, from the right people, at the right time.

Our work is focused on three shared priorities:

  • Keeping Families Together
  • Improved Education Attendance
  • Good Early Years Child Development

We’re offering five 18-month Business Support Officer opportunities through secondment or fixed-term contracts, open to colleagues across our core partner organisations. You’ll join the Birmingham Families First programme team, providing essential business, administrative and logistical support to our city-wide transformation work.

What we are looking for:

This is a varied and important role at the heart of the programme. You’ll help keep activity organised, connected and on track, supporting the team and our partners as we develop and embed new ways of working. You’ll support with:

  • Coordinating meetings, workshops and programme activity
  • Managing documentation, records and robust version control
  • Bringing the right people together and supporting effective communication
  • Keeping programme information organised and accessible
  • Providing flexible business support across the team as priorities develop

We’re looking for someone who is highly organised, proactive and comfortable working in a busy programme environment, with:

  • Strong business support and organisational skills
  • Confidence managing meetings, logistics and documentation
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good communication and relationship-building skills
  • A flexible, solutions-focused approach
  • Experience working at Senior Administrator level

Most importantly, you’ll be someone who enjoys being part of a team, can anticipate what needs to happen next and is willing to get stuck in to help make things happen. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of Birmingham Families First and play an important role in building a stronger, more joined-up partnership around children and families across Birmingham.

This is a hybrid role based in Birmingham so you must have the correct right-to-work documents to work in the UK. Sadly, we do not support those who require sponsorship.

Please note as part of our onboarding process, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a series of background checks with Experian including Experian DBS, Experian Right to Work, and Digital ID verification. These are essential pre-employment requirements.

Interviews will be held week commencing 23 November.

For further information about the role, please contact Hannah Hinton (Head of Service) [email protected]
