Intensive Family Therapy (IFT)

We are looking for a passionate and skilled Higher Level Family Support Worker to join our Intensive Family Therapy (IFT) Service. This is an exciting opportunity for experienced practitioners who are committed to helping children, young people and families make sustainable positive change.

Working alongside Lead Therapists within a multidisciplinary therapeutic team, you will play a key role in delivering practical interventions, supporting therapeutic plans, strengthening family relationships, and promoting positive outcomes across home, school and community settings.

About the Role

As a Higher Level Family Support Worker, you will work directly with children, young people and families experiencing complex emotional, behavioural and social challenges.

You will support the delivery of therapeutic interventions and help families translate therapeutic learning into meaningful change in everyday life. The role involves close partnership working with schools, families and professional networks to ensure that interventions are effective, consistent and responsive to need.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver agreed interventions with children, young people and families in line with therapeutic plans and identified outcomes.
• Work under the guidance of the Lead Therapist, adapting interventions in response to therapeutic recommendations and changing family needs.
• Undertake school-based observations to assess engagement, behaviour, social interactions and educational participation, feeding back findings to therapists and professional partners.
• Support children and young people through transitions and changes within educational settings, promoting attendance, engagement and emotional regulation.
• Reinforce therapeutic work undertaken by Lead Therapists, ensuring consistency across home, school and community environments.
• Monitor and review a young person's understanding and application of therapeutic concepts and strategies, providing feedback that informs ongoing assessment and planning.
• Maintain effective communication with families, schools and partner agencies to support implementation of intervention plans.
• Support access to community-based and pro-social activities that build resilience, confidence, independence and positive peer relationships.
• Provide practical and emotional support to children, young people and carers, encouraging engagement and sustained positive change.
• Maintain accurate, timely and high-quality records of all contacts, observations, interventions and outcomes, in line with safeguarding requirements and service standards.

This is a hybrid role based in Birmingham so you must reside within a suitable commutable distance around Birmingham and have the correct right-to-work documents to work in the UK. Sadly, we do not support those who require sponsorship.

About you

Qualifications

• Educated to GCSE level or equivalent.
• NVQ Level 4 (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant field.
• Willingness to undertake ongoing training and professional development.

Experience

• Significant experience of working directly with children, young people and families presenting with complex needs.
• Experience of delivering evidence-based interventions and achieving positive outcomes.
