Birmingham Bond is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead and develop our freight, customs, and bonded warehousing operations. This is a senior, hands-on role responsible for overseeing day-to-day operational performance, ensuring full compliance with HMRC regulations, driving new business growth, and acting as the primary point of contact for HMRC. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining operational excellence while supporting the strategic growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities
- Operations & Team Management
- Oversee and manage the freight and customs teams, ensuring efficient and compliant operations.
- Lead, motivate, and develop staff to achieve high performance and service standards.
- Ensure operational processes are efficient, compliant, and continuously improved.
- Customs & Compliance
- Take full responsibility for customs operations, ensuring adherence to all UK customs regulations.
- Act as the direct point of contact for HMRC, handling audits, queries, inspections, and correspondence.
- Ensure all bonded and excise activities are compliant with HMRC requirements and licensing conditions.
- Maintain accurate records and reporting in line with regulatory standards.
- Bonded & Excise Warehouse Management
- Oversee the day-to-day management of the bonded and excise warehouse.
- Ensure secure handling, storage, and movement of bonded and excise goods.
- Maintain systems and controls to protect duty-suspended stock.
- Business Development
- Support the growth of Birmingham Bond by bringing in new business opportunities.
- Work closely with senior management and clients to develop tailored logistics and bonded solutions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience in an Operations Manager or similar senior operational role.
- Strong background in freight forwarding, customs clearance, and bonded/excise warehousing.
- In-depth knowledge of HMRC regulations and customs compliance.
- Experience acting as a primary contact for HMRC.
- Strong leadership and people-management skills.
- Commercial awareness with the ability to support business development.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Desirable
- Experience within bonded warehouse operations.
