Opportunity

A Fantastic opportunity has arisen for Mental Health or Learning Disability nurses to join the 24hr healthcare Team at HMP Birmingham. This is a Band 5 post within an Adult Category B prison, offering a unique role that requires a diverse mix of nursing skills and the chance to embrace change and embed culture while working alongside NHS and partnership agencies.

Service Overview

We provide focused pathways in Secondary mental health, Trauma, Personality Disorder, Dementia care and Learning Disability & Autism. The service includes a 15‑bed assessment service and a Community Mental Health Team that extends to the wider community.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for mental health and learning disability & neurodiversity patients.
  • Apply local and national policies and legislation that govern service provision.
  • Identify and contribute to the training needs of others.
  • Promote equality, diversity, and rights in line with good practice legislation.
  • Ensure effective communication pathways and act within the sphere of responsibility.
  • Manage yourself, the team, and the clinical area in the absence of the person in charge.
  • Work in partnership with HMPPS prison staff to support the operation of the healthcare environment.

Requirements

Experienced nurses only. Band 5 nurses must possess a real understanding of the needs of the prisoner/offender population and be able to innovate and improve services within a 24hr healthcare environment.
