Band 5 Staff Nurse – HMP Birmingham

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for Mental Health or Learning Disability nurses, to join the 24hr healthcare team at HMP Birmingham. We are an NHS service provider working alongside partnership agencies.
We are expanding services with focused pathways on Secondary mental health, Trauma, Personality Disorder, Dementia care and Learning Disability & Autism.
We have a Band 5 post at our HMP Birmingham, an Adult Category B prison with a diverse range of nursing needs.
This role offers a unique experience, requiring a diverse mixed nursing skill set and attracting nurses from a range of professional specialist areas.
- A visit to the prison is highly recommended to interested candidates.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Deputy Ward Managers, Clinical Team Manager and Service Manager, the post holder will be responsible for:
- Assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for those with experience of mental health and learning disability & neurodiversity.
- Applying local and national policies and legislation governing service provision.
- Identifying and contributing to training needs of others and promoting equality, diversity and rights issues in accordance with good practice legislation.
- Ensuring effective communication pathways and managing the team and clinical area in the absence of the person in charge.
- Understanding broad principles of the recovery approach and incorporating them into holistic services that support people’s recovery, social inclusion, self‑management, autonomy and independence.
- Working in partnership with HMPPS prison staff to support the operation of the healthcare environment.
- Supporting therapeutic groups and interventions, undertaking assessment and supporting patients through forensic mental health and learning disability pathways.
