Job overview
Our dynamic and forward-looking Birmingham and Solihull (BSol) Learning Disability and Autism (LDA) Commissioning team are recruiting a Co-Production Lead to increase and enhance the input of Experts by Experience (EBEs) to be an integral part of our commissioning activity.
The post holder will develop and embed a LDA-specific Co-Production strategy, developing infrastructure, processes, and formalized policies as a foundation for a long-term accessible model of citizen participation across the priorities of the BSol Learning Disability and Autism programme.
You will coordinate programmes and projects that enable those with lived experience to effectively contribute to the BSol health and care system through planning, reviewing, and implementing service design, reviews, and evaluation, being partners in system improvements in LDA.
The post holder must have experience working with people with Learning Disabilities and/or who are autistic, both at individual and system levels, in co-production, participation, and inclusion activities and must demonstrate a solid understanding of reasonable adjustments and their implementation.
Working with existing Co-Production leads in the wider BSol system, you will ensure connectivity and cooperation with Local Authority and Third Sector partners to expand EBE networks, especially with those whose voices are less often heard.
Main duties of the job
We are recruiting for a committed Co-Production Lead – preferably with experience of working within the field of Learning Disability or Autism to work on developing the co-production agenda within the Learning Disability and Autism Commissioning Team.
The post holder will take the lead in coordinating programmes, projects, training, and activities that build partnerships between learning disabled and/or autistic patients/service users, their carers/families, and service providers to bring about changes to services that they use. They will work closely with the LD&A Commissioning team to influence change.
They will support positive changes to organizational culture and individual lives and demonstrate the principles of the developing Mental Health Provider Collaborative Co-Production Strategy.
The post holder will work with teams across all the providers of care across the Birmingham and Solihull footprint to enable service users, carers, and members to be listened to and responded to, as well as developing partnerships to plan, review, and design service changes and improvements. This will include supporting the work around reducing health inequalities and inclusion of harder-to-reach groups of people.
The role will lead and build on the innovative approach to engaging, supporting, and developing patients/service users and carers’ active involvement with the development of services. This includes further development of Lived Experience roles and Experts by Experience.

This role gives the opportunity for hybrid working, and you will typically be asked to work in a hybrid way, working from your home and also from Trust HQ The Uffculme Centre, or any other agreed site.
Person specification
- Educated to master’s level or equivalent level of experience working at a senior level
- Evidence of knowledge of specialist mental health / Learning Disability / Autism acquired through experience or training
- Proven track record and experience of working with patients/service users and carers, on an individual level and in co-production, participation, and inclusion activities
- Experience of working with individuals with a learning disability and/or autism
- Project management experience including facilitating and managing transformation
