Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 CPN looking for a new challenge to work within the East Assertive Outreach Team. The Assertive Outreach Service is a multidisciplinary team that adopts a person-centred approach, focusing on individual recovery. We work with adults with complex, severe, and enduring mental health needs in the community.
This position would be suitable for a Registered Mental Health Nurse with a qualification at degree level or equivalent and registration with a relevant professional body (i.e., NMC) with several years’ community experience working with service users with complex long-term needs.
The Assertive Outreach service operates over 7 days per week, 365 days per year, with shift patterns consisting of day shifts (9:00 am – 5:00 pm), late shifts (12:00 pm – 8:00 pm), and weekends (9:00 am – 5:00 pm). However, we can offer flexible working arrangements during these hours.
The ability and willingness to travel across the Birmingham & Solihull area for work purposes is required for this role.
Main duties of the job
- Act as Key worker to a prescribed caseload, effectively managing your workload utilizing Dialog plus care planning tool in recovery-focused interventions.
- Work as an independent practitioner and collaboratively as part of the Team, demonstrating the ability to work with challenging and complex issues.
- Demonstrate a range of skills including effective communication, empathy, self-awareness, clinical skills, and understanding of the Mental Health Act.
- Attend daily handovers and maintain high levels of communication within the team and contribute to the risk management processes within the service.
- Possess a thorough understanding of the role of a CPN and the role of key worker, demonstrating high levels of skill in assessment, intervention, and planning within a client-centred recovery approach.

Person specification
Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma in Mental Health Nursing
Experience
- Experience in adult mental health settings
- Supervision of junior staff and/or being a placement educator
- Demonstrates experience of MDT working and with external agencies/health care providers
- Community experience
- Demonstrates leadership skills
Knowledge
- Knowledge/experience of the recovery approach in mental health
- Knowledge/experience of clinical audit
