Overview

An exciting opportunity for three Healthcare Assistants to work within the Oleaster Urgent Care Centre. The Urgent Care Centre offers a warm welcome and opportunities to develop and enhance your skills and knowledge. Your role includes assisting in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care under the guidance of a qualified nurse. You will assist in the development and provision of social and therapeutic activities for service users, and promote effective therapeutic relationships that meet spirituality, equality and diversity needs in accordance with good practice and legislation. The post holder will ensure effective communication pathways exist and will act as a role model to junior staff within their sphere of responsibility, promoting recovery in mental health.

The Urgent Care Centre provides a focused, flexible team approach to support individuals with complex, severe and enduring mental health conditions. Within the Psychiatric Decision Unit Department, there is a focus on person-centred, meaningful recovery, offering a unique and rewarding opportunity to work with people in challenging circumstances.

The Urgent Care Centre is commissioned to support service users who are detained under sections 136/135 of the Mental Health Act (MHA) for further assessment under the MHA. Depending on the outcome of the assessment, the team will formulate discharge planning, which may include admission to a psychiatric hospital.

Working within the Urgent Care Centre, the post holder will be expected to support the Senior Urgent Care Nurse (Bed Manager) in sourcing a psychiatric bed, including liaising with contracted bed providers.

The successful applicant will be able to work days, nights and unsocial hours as part of our 365 days a year, 24/7 service. Regular management supervision will be provided by an identified management supervisor, with opportunities to attend monthly clinical supervision and regular team meetings.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care under the guidance of the qualified nurse.
• Assist in the development and provision of social and therapeutic activities for service users and promote effective therapeutic relationships in line with diversity and legislation.
• Ensure effective communication pathways exist and act as a role model to junior staff within your sphere of responsibility, promoting recovery in mental health.
• Support the Senior Urgent Care Nurse (Bed Manager) in sourcing for a psychiatric bed, including liaison with contracted bed providers.
• Support discharge planning following assessments under the MHA, including considerations for admission to psychiatric hospital where appropriate.
• Work in collaboration with a dedicated Urgent Care Centre team that provides intensive, flexible support for individuals with complex mental health needs.
• Be flexible to cover day, night and unsocial hours as part of a 24/7 service.
• Engage in regular management and clinical supervision and participate in team meetings.

Requirements / Qualifications

• Some working knowledge of local, national policies and legislation that govern current service provision.
• Positive attitude, good teamwork, and alignment with Trust values: committed, compassionate and inclusive.
• Ability to work across a 365-day, 24/7 service with flexibility for shift patterns.
• Willingness to support patients under urgent care and psychiatric detentions as part of the care pathway.
