Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for three Healthcare Assistants to work within the Oleaster on our dedicated Urgent Care Centre. The Urgent Care Centre offers a warm welcome and opportunities to develop and enhance your skills and knowledge. Your role will include assisting in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care under the guidance of the qualified nurse. You will be expected to have some working knowledge of local, national policies and legislation which govern current service provision. You will assist in the development and provision of social and therapeutic activities for service users, and the promotion of effective therapeutic relationships, which will meet spirituality, equality and diversity needs in accordance with good practice and legislation. The post holder will ensure effective communication pathways exist, acting as a role model to junior staff within their sphere of responsibility, and in a manner, which positively promotes recovery in mental health.

The Urgent Care Centre provides an intensive yet flexible team approach to support individuals with the most complex, severe and enduring mental health conditions. Within the Psychiatric Decision Unit Department, we emphasise a person centred, meaningful recovery and provide a unique and rewarding opportunity to work with people in challenging circumstances. The Urgent Care Centre is commissioned to support service users who are detained under sections 136/135 of the MHA for further assessment under the MHA. Depending on the outcome of the assessment, the team will formulate discharge planning including admission to a psychiatric hospital.

Working within the Urgent Care Centre, the post holder will be expected to support the Senior Urgent Care Nurse (Bed Manager) in sourcing a psychiatric bed, including liaising with contracted bed providers.

The successful applicant will need to be able to work days, nights and unsocial hours as part of our 365 days a year, 24/7 service.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care under the guidance of the qualified nurse.
  • Assist in the development and provision of social and therapeutic activities for service users, and promote effective therapeutic relationships, meeting spirituality, equality and diversity needs in line with good practice and legislation.
  • Ensure effective communication pathways exist and act as a role model to junior staff, promoting recovery in mental health.
  • Support the Senior Urgent Care Nurse (Bed Manager) in sourcing for psychiatric beds and liaising with contracted bed providers.
  • Work across day, night and unsocial hours as part of a 24/7 service.

Qualifications and requirements
