The Airfield Supervisor provides daily oversight of airfield safety and operational activity, acting as the primary point of contact for all airside stakeholders. You will ensure the safe operation of airfield infrastructure, support the Airfield Duty Manager (ADM) during incidents and emergencies, and coordinate resources within the Airfield Safety Unit. The role is central to delivering Birmingham Airport's Safety Management System (SMS), maintaining compliance, and driving continuous improvement across airside operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Airfield Safety Oversight - Monitor airfield conditions, complete movement area inspections, and ensure safe, compliant operations at all times.
- Regulatory & Procedural Compliance - Implement Aerodrome procedures including Low Visibility Procedures, Permit to Work processes, winter operations and post-works inspections.
- Incident & Emergency Response - Support the ADM during emergencies, disruptions and unplanned events, ensuring evidence gathering, reporting and follow-up actions.
- Safety Audits & Reporting - Conduct audits, hazard identification, security patrols and contribute to investigations, including MOR submissions and safety promotion activities.
- Team Leadership & Development - Lead and support Airfield Safety Officers, ensuring competency, performance, daily briefings and adherence to Just Culture principles.
- Stakeholder Engagement - Build effective relationships with airlines, agents, authorities and internal departments to maintain safe and efficient airside operations.
Experience Required
- Airside Operations Background - Experience in airside operations, aviation safety or a similar regulated operational environment.
- Safety Management Knowledge - Understanding of SMS principles, hazard identification, audits and safety investigations.
- Regulatory Awareness - Knowledge of Civil Aviation regulations, Aerodrome procedures and airfield operational standards.
- Incident & Emergency Response - Experience supporting operational incidents, disruptions or emergency response activities.
- Leadership & Team Competency - Ability to lead frontline teams, maintain competency frameworks and deliver training.
- Stakeholder Collaboration - Proven experience working with airlines, authorities or operational partners in a fast-paced environment.
