Purpose of job
Birketts is recruiting for an ambitious, driven and forward-thinking environmental lawyer to join our growing Planning and Environmental Team on a permanent basis. The team operates across four offices and is expanding, so the ability to work across offices and travel is expected. Ideally, you would have a home office in Cambridge or Ipswich to facilitate supervision and a diverse workload.
You will provide professional, proactive, high-level legal support to a designated group of fee earners and the wider team. The role involves managing a varied caseload of planning and environmental work, primarily delivering high-quality environmental law advice to clients.
Experience in planning law and environmental law is beneficial. However, candidates with experience only in environmental law are welcome, and a willingness to learn planning law is essential.
Accountabilities
- Support the Planning and Environmental team in achieving growth and service excellence
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues, supervise junior staff, and seek supervision from seniors
- Use software such as Microsoft Word and Excel to produce high-standard documents, spreadsheets, and presentations
- Become proficient in legal software like Hi Q, Expert Time Recording, and Compare Docs
- Prepare advice and documentation to meet client deadlines and standards
- Update clients on case progress as needed
- Proofread all work for accuracy and clarity
- Participate in business development activities for the team and firm
