In this role you will lead and grow Birketts’ Employment Team, delivering high-quality employment law advice to a wide range of clients. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to shape strategy and drive business development, mentoring junior lawyers and fostering a collaborative culture. You will handle complex transactions, strategic advisory work, and international matters, helping protect clients’ interests across jurisdictions. Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of junior lawyers, fostering collaboration and development
- Build and maintain strong client relationships and contribute to business development
- Contribute to thought leadership and sector-focused marketing initiatives
- Advise on general employment issues, including maternity rights and contractual matters
- Draft and review employment contracts, policies, and executive agreements
- Advising on restrictive covenants, confidentiality, and protection of business interests
- Manage employment litigation in tribunals and settlement negotiations
- Advise multinational organisations on international employment law and cross-border matters
- Provide support in boardroom disputes, severance, and negotiated departures
- Support international restructurings and coordination of overseas advice
- Note: role includes additional duties as required by line manager
Key requirements
- Minimum 8 years PQE
- Ability to supervise and mentor team members
- Business development experience and client base growth
- Strong attention to detail and high-quality documentation
- Professional integrity and commitment to excellent client service
- Competence with Microsoft Word, Excel, time recording software, case management, Outlook and digital dictation
