As Senior Legal Process Designer, you will lead the redesign of how Birketts delivers legal services, collaborating with partners, lawyers, and technology teams to boost efficiency, transparency, and client experience. You will map current workflows, design improved processes, and drive automation and technology enablement across practice areas. The role sits at the intersection of transformation, operations, and legal delivery, enabling scalable models for complex matters and client-led solutions. You will contribute to high-impact transformation initiatives within a leading UK law firm, shaping modern legal service delivery.

Responsibilities
- Analyze current legal service delivery processes across practice groups, sectors and client teams
- Map existing as-is workflows and design to-be processes to reduce friction and risk
- Identify bottlenecks, hand-off issues, rework, and opportunities for standardisation or automation
- Create process maps, SOPs, playbooks, templates and documentation
- Embed continuous improvement disciplines into legal teams balancing efficiency with quality
- Support firm-wide transformation initiatives modernising how legal services are scoped, resourced, delivered and measured
- Design scalable operating models for repeatable work, complex matters, and client-led solutions
- Improve work allocation, matter planning, and delivery governance
- Collaborate with pricing, finance, project management and knowledge teams to enhance predictability and profitability
- Identify opportunities to use legal technology, workflow automation, and AI-enabled tools
- Translate requirements into technology specifications and work with IT to implement solutions
- Support adoption through training and communications
- Facilitate workshops and discovery sessions with partners, lawyers, teams and clients
- Prepare recommendations, business cases and implementation plans for senior stakeholders
- Act as trusted adviser to practice leaders and transformation sponsors
- Contribute to tenders, pitches and client meetings; arrange hackathons and problem-solving forums
- Develop repeatable propositions to improve client experience and value
Key requirements
- Degree or equivalent experience in Law with at least 5 years PQE (transactional background advantageous)
- 2 years’ experience in process design and/or project management in a professional service
- Understanding of agile methodology an advantage
- Legal project management experience desirable
- Experience in legal operations, transformation, business analysis, or comparable professional services delivery roles
- Strong process mapping and workflow design skills with Service Design or Continuous Improvement approaches
- Good understanding of legal technology, automation, and knowledge management tools
- Ability to define KPIs and demonstrate benefits in quality, efficiency, profitability or adoption
- Credible engagement with partners, fee earners, leaders, technologists and clients
- Excellent written and verbal communication and ability to produce clear documentation and executive summaries
