Overview
As a Partner in Birketts’ leasehold enfranchisement practice, you will lead and grow a national team delivering expert enfranchisement advice across contentious and non-contentious matters. You’ll shape strategy within the Residential Real Estate group and drive client service, business development, and cross-office collaboration. You’ll mentor colleagues, develop precedents, and expand services such as management licenses and right-to-manage. This role offers impact, leadership, and a platform to influence the firm’s growth in a niche real estate practice.
Responsibilities
- Develop and lead the enfranchisement practice with a focus on technical excellence and client service
- Drive business development, nurture existing connections, and win new clients
- Provide strategic leadership and training across enfranchisement worktypes, including legislation changes
- Build relationships with property finders, estate agents, and brokers to generate opportunities
- Oversee training and development for all practice members and maintain precedents
- Explore diversification opportunities (e.g., right to manage, management licenses) and liaise with managing agents
- Manage day-to-day people and performance management, recruitment, and financial/compliance aspects
- Ensure risk management, quality benchmarks, and Lexcel standards are upheld
- Shape the culture, brand, and values within the enfranchisement practice and wider team
- Deliver strategic advice on structuring freehold transfers, lease grants, and tax-efficient projects

- Strong following and marketplace presence to grow the practice
- recognised technical expert enabling clear, tailored advice on complex legal issues
- Proven ability to drive business development, pitches, and cross-selling
- Excellent client management and project leadership skills
- Strong communication, team leadership, and mentoring capabilities
- Commitment to high standards of risk management and compliance
- Competence with Word, Excel, case management, time recording software, Outlook and digital dictation
- Strong client relationship building
- Strategic thinking and leadership
- Excellent communication and training abilities
- Leasehold enfranchisement expertise (1993 Act, 1987 Act, 1967 Act)
- Legislation monitoring and training delivery
- Drafting and negotiating participation agreements and deeds of adherence
