Overview
Solicitor, Associate or Senior Associate – Planning at Birketts LLP. The Planning and Environmental Team is part of the Property Division and handles a wide range of planning and environmental work.
Purpose of job
Birketts is recruiting for an ambitious, driven and forward-thinking environmental lawyer to join the Planning and Environmental Team on a permanent basis. The team is spread across multiple offices and may require cross-office work and occasional travel; a home office in Cambridge or Ipswich is preferred for supervision and a diverse range of work. You will provide professional, proactive, high level legal support to an allocated group of fee earners and to the wider fee earning team, focusing on delivering high quality environmental law advice to varied clients.
Responsibilities
- Support the Planning and Environmental team in delivering growth and client service excellence
- Collaborate with colleagues, supervise junior staff, and seek supervision from senior members
- Produce correspondence, documents, spreadsheets and presentations using Microsoft Word and Excel to high standards and deadlines
- Become proficient in legal software such as Hi Q, Expert Time Recording and Compare Docs
- Prepare high-standard advice and documentation and deliver to client demands and deadlines
- Update clients on progress as required
- Proofread all work for spelling and grammar
- Engage in business development activities for the Planning and Environment team and the wider firm

- A qualified lawyer with experience in environmental law commensurate with PQE
- The candidate will be a solicitor, barrister or legal executive
- Strong computer/technical skills including Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to communicate with colleagues at all levels and liaise with internal and external contacts
- Discretion and a positive, collaborative approach to teamwork
- Flexible, highly motivated, proactive and can-do working style
- Self-motivated with initiative and attention to detail
- Good organisational skills, prioritisation and ability to work in a sometimes pressurised environment
