The Department

The Private Client Advisory team currently comprises over 50 specialist lawyers, including seven partners, making us one of the largest teams in the East of England. We act as trusted advisers to individuals, families, trustees, family or owner-run businesses and trust companies in the UK and internationally. We prioritise continuity and long-term client relationships to provide practical advice and commercial solutions on a wide range of tax, trust and estate planning matters. We are opening a brand new office in Sevenoaks, Kent (Apr 2023) and are recruiting an experienced Associate/Senior Associate to join the Kent team and collaborate with the Team Leader, other partners and the wider team.

Purpose of job

  • Manage a varied caseload involving all aspects of wills, trusts, tax, estate and succession planning. Work largely autonomously, with support from the team as appropriate. May supervise/mentor junior associates and trainees.
  • Take ownership of client interactions with clients, their other advisers and intermediaries to grow the department’s practice.
  • Take client instructions and advise on law, tax and practical commercial issues.
  • Draft deeds, documents, advice notes, letters and correspondence tailored to the client’s needs.

Accountabilities

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Running and managing files and delegating to junior lawyers and trainees as appropriate
  • Interacting directly with clients and managing their expectations
  • Assisting senior members of the team as required

  • Qualified Solicitor with 4+ years PQE
  • High attention to detail with consistently high-quality work and documentation; flexible to meet client deadlines and maintain regular client communications
  • Interest in and aptitude for business development
  • Excellent computer/technical skills, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to communicate with colleagues at all levels and liaise effectively with other departments and external contacts
  • Good organisational skills, able to prioritise, make decisions and work under pressure
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and development
