What skills and experience we're looking for
We seek to appoint a highly effective and outstanding Head of Dance and Performing Arts. This is a full time, fixed-term position from Monday 4th January 2027 until Friday 31st March 2028.
This role is to teach and oversee the management of the A-level Dance and the Performing Arts BTEC. Both of these are popular courses with 20 students currently on the Performing Arts and 16 students studying Dance. Units covered in Dance include: practical performance, including solo and quartet work, choreography, and critical engagement through the study and analysis of professional dance works, practitioners and the historical development of dance. Units covered in Performing Arts include: Investigating Practitioners' Work, Developing Skills and Techniques for Live Performance, Musical Theatre and Group Performance, combining practical performance-based lessons with theoretical study and coursework to develop students' creative, technical and analytical skills.
You would be the sole teacher within these subject areas, however, there is a strong collaborative and supportive approach amongst all colleagues, and you will work closely with the Drama and Digital Music team due to the performance element. We also run a dance show to showcase all students' practical work in preparation for their exams as well as extra curriculum routines that have been choreographed. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for the teaching of Dance and Performing Arts at Post-16 and have the ability to inspire students both practically and academically. They will deliver highly effective lessons, utilising techniques and practices that are evidence based and engage all learners.
