Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking a dedicated Student Services Assistant to join our Student Advice Centre. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys working with a diverse range of people.
The Student Advice Centre serves as a hub for customer enquiries and this position offers an exciting opportunity for individuals with a keen interest in providing excellent customer service in an advisory capacity. The Advice Centre is the initial point of contact for all prospective and current students in connection with their studies, and provides a gateway to student support at Birkbeck. This is a full-time, four month contract from July-November 2025, on a salary of Β£28,108 per year.
As a Student Services Assistant, you will:
- Act as the first point of contact for all current and prospective students.
- Handle enquiries via telephone, email, and in-person, especially during the Clearing Admissions cycle.
- Provide clear advice on Birkbeck's admissions policies and procedures.
- Use College systems to log queries, book appointments, and guide students on enrolment.
- Work flexibly across different teams, supporting team members and maintain accurate records and resources.
To be successful as a Student Services Assistant, you should have:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a commitment to providing excellent customer service.
- The ability to work well in a team and handle high volumes/extensive work during peak periods.
- Excellent spoken and written English skills.
- Strong IT skills, including proficiency in MS Office and the ability to learn new systems (training provided).

Terms and Conditions: Fixed-term, four month contract 31 July-28 November 2025. Full-time (35 hours a week), Monday to Thursday, 10-6pm (one late shift to 6.30pm) and Friday 10-5pm - mainly office based to staff phonelines. Occasional weekend work for overtime at time and a half pay, and may include Saturday.
