Are you an experienced accounts payable professional looking for your next opportunity in a dynamic, purpose‑driven university? We are looking for a Payments Assistant to join our Finance team at Birkbeck, University of London this Summer 2026. As Payments Assistant, you will play a key role in ensuring our suppliers are paid accurately and on time, providing an excellent service to both internal and external stakeholders.

Working as part of a small, collaborative Payments team, you will be responsible for:

  • Processing invoices and credit notes
  • Reconciling supplier accounts
  • Handling queries
  • Supporting the preparation of BACS and international payment runs
  • Maintaining supplier records
  • Supporting users of our Business World (Agresso) finance system

Qualifications:

  • Good knowledge of accounts payable systems and processes, and financial regulations relevant to accounts payable including VAT treatment of invoices
  • Understanding of three‑way matching and coding supplier invoices, and experience preparing BACS payment runs
  • Proven IT skills and sound organisational and administrative skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Salary and benefits:

£31,234 to £34,827 per year, Grade 4 on the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated London Weighting Allowance. Benefits: competitive salary and pension scheme, 31 days paid leave, flexible working arrangements, generous benefits in the HE sector, and a location in the heart of Bloomsbury, Euston, London.

Contract: Permanent, full‑time contract (working 35 hours per week and hybrid working).
