Birkbeck, University of London, is looking for an Impact & Knowledge Exchange Manager to develop societal and economic impacts from its research.

Responsibilities

  • Raise the profile of research findings externally and support knowledge exchange for each School in the Faculty of Business & Law or the Faculty of Science.
  • Strengthen relationships with organisations and employers by working closely with them to develop knowledge exchange opportunities in relation to research, professional development and best practice.
  • Keep abreast of latest policy developments concerning impact and knowledge exchange, and convey this to academics in relation to specific disciplines, encouraging discipline‑appropriate impact activities, and report on knowledge exchange and other activities to meet reporting requirements such as REF and HEBCIS.
  • Play a critical role in Birkbeck’s preparations for REF 2029 by undertaking fact‑finding and strategic interventions to support the preparation of documentary evidence for REF case studies and support the academic lead to construct the narrative.
  • Provide high‑level professional advice and support to the ongoing development and implementation of approaches to enhance research impact, reputation, and engagement.
  • Support academics applying for funding to embed impact and knowledge exchange, develop ideas with external stakeholders, collate evidence that change has been achieved, and narrate these stories for REF.

Qualifications

  • Education to degree level or equivalent experience.
  • Solid understanding of the research process and its translation outside the academy.
  • Proven track record in impact, knowledge exchange and/or public engagement.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, working creatively and collaboratively to produce meaningful change.
  • Relevant experience as an Impact Officer, Knowledge Exchange professional or Public Engagement professional.

Contract

  • Permanent, part‑time (28 hours per week – 0.8 FTE) contract. Flexible and hybrid working offered. State which Faculty you would be interested in supporting – either Business & Law or Science.

Salary and benefits

  • £35,398 rising to £40,303 per annum, 0.8 FTE (pro‑rated £44,247 rising to £50,379 per annum). Grade 7 on the College's London Pay Scale and includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance that applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the London area.
