Are you a current student or recent Birkbeck graduate with excellent organisation and administrative skills? Are you a strong communicator, with great social media and copy writing skills who is eager to learn and develop?
We have an exciting opportunity for a Communications Assistant to join Birkbeck Students' Union and be involved in an exciting period of positive change. You will be someone who is committed to engaging the diverse Birkbeck student population, and who has the skills, enthusiasm and creativity to support the Students' Union communications team to build our Birkbeck community and a positive student experience for everyone.
In this role, you will ensure Birkbeck students are engaged and aware of the Union's activity through the development and delivery of the Student Union's communication strategy. You will expand on your communication skills and have the opportunity to develop design and video skills through content creation. You will ensure students feel supported and heard by providing an excellent customer service across the Students' Union mailbox and social media channels. You will also lead on identifying emerging trends from student feedback to ensure the Students' Union remains representative in their work, and aware of student needs.
To be successful in this role, you will have a passion for communication and a demonstrable ability to communicate clearly in different formats (e.g. written/verbal). You will also be able to demonstrate good organisation skills and have a proven track record of excellent customer service - as well as great attention to detail, and the ability to identify key information.
This position is open to Birkbeck students enrolled between Sept 2026- Sept 2027 or recent graduates of Birkbeck from the 2024/25 or 2025/26 academic years.
Remuneration: Actual £11,400 per year, 0.4 FTE (pro-rated £28,502 per year FTE). The salary is Grade 3 on the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the London area. This is a fixed term, six month contract. Part-time 14 hours per week 0.4 FTE.
