Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking an Associate Lecturer to join the teaching team and support the School of Psychological Sciences this Autumn 2026.
Responsibilities
- Support the teaching team in R for Reproducible Psychological Research, Level 6
- Up to 42 hours of teaching (either 24 hours or 18 hours)
- 14 sessions on Tuesday afternoons 2-5pm and/or evenings 6-9pm Autumn term
- Deliver teaching to Birkbeck students to enable them to complete their studies successfully
- Undertake all related course administrative duties as required, including marking
- Preparation, teaching, administration and assessment for the R for Reproducible Psychological Research module
The module offers an introduction to the R coding language and its use in Psychological Sciences, including:
- Data wrangling (e.g. data input, data manipulation)
- Data visualisation and the ggplot package
- The basics of coding including conditional statements, logical operations and loops
- The dyplr package for data manipulation
- Basic statistical analysis
- Reproducible science and introduction to rmarkdown for report writing
Qualifications
- A degree in Psychology or related area
- Pursuing or completed a postgraduate degree in Psychology or related area
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience in R coding and its application within Psychological sciences
- Relevant teaching experience, working with adult students within the HE sector
- A good understanding of the needs of full and part-time adult learners

Remuneration
Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College, starting rate £69.68 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay, for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ at 2.5, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
Contract
Fixed-term, part-time contract teaching October to December 2026. Please submit an application form for consideration. Please state if 24 hours or 18 hours (or both) contract is preferable.
