Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking a Lecturer in Law to join our internationally respected Law School, and teach in the next academic year, beginning Autumn 2026. Birkbeck Law School within the Faculty of Business & Law, is looking for an exceptional Lecturer. The School welcomes, in particular, applicants with expertise, or experience, in one or a combination of the following:

  • Developing and delivering CILEX legal practice modules (legal practice experience would be particularly welcome for this role);
  • Leadership in student facing support;
  • Expertise in commercial law.

However, applicants without these areas of expertise will still be considered. This post is offered on a permanent contract at Birkbeck, full time 35 hours per week, with a salary of £44,247 rising to £60,858 per year. Teaching hours will vary from 6pm – 9pm, Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching across any of the 7 Foundations of Legal Knowledge, as well as contributing to programme curriculum.
  • Developing research objectives, projects and proposals (with the assistance of a mentor if required) whilst on academic probation; writing up research work for publication; and identifying sources of funding and contributing to the process of securing funds.
  • Contribute to the leadership and management of the School’s academic activities, as appropriate to your level of seniority (in roles such as admissions tutor; programme director; careers lead, etc.).
  • Employing innovations in teaching and learning, to meet the learning needs of students, through the development of teaching materials, forms of pedagogy, or appropriate teaching collaborations.

Remuneration: £44,247 rising to £60,858 per annum. The salary is Grade LLEC on the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the London area.
