Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking an Associate Tutor to join the teaching team and support its Business School in Autumn 2026.
Module Details
- SC07007Z5 Preparing for Work
- Teaching 1.5 hours per week for 9 weeks
- Autumn Term, Wednesdays, 1930-2100
- Teaching starts w/c 5 October 2026
Responsibilities
- You will guide students through reflective tasks, practical preparation, and role‑play exercises to build confidence and develop a practical portfolio, including CV and interview responses.
- You will support students’ preparation for entry into work placement, delivering on the Preparing for Work module which equips them with self‑awareness, market knowledge, application skills and preparedness.
- You will design and deliver learning activities, manage student anxiety, and provide balanced and constructive feedback on oral and written student work.
Qualifications
- You have at least a degree in Career Coaching or Career Guidance, or an equivalent qualification, preferably at Masters level.
- Experience supporting undergraduate students or early‑career professionals in a Career Coaching or Career Guidance capacity, ideally with a supporting qualification, is expected.
- Knowledge of academic writing and research skills (literature research, argument development, essay writing, critical thinking and discussion) and the ability to teach and support students in relevant courses is required.
Remuneration
Payment is based on an hourly rate. Starting rate £61.39 per hour inclusive of pro‑rata London Allowance and holiday pay, for contact hours worked. This rate is based on Grade 6 and includes a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ of 2.5, covering preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
Contract
Fixed‑term, part‑time contract teaching.
