Birkbeck, University of London seeks an Associate Lecturer to join the teaching team and support the School of Natural Sciences this Autumn 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Support the module “Volcanism in the Solar System”, a Level 6 module requiring 30 hours of contact, scheduled Tuesday evenings 6-9pm.
  • Deliver lecture and practical classes, including analogue experiments, petrological study, and satellite data analysis.
  • Secure and manage any relevant extra-terrestrial samples.
  • Prepare, teach, administer, assess and mark work, and undertake further duties relating to teaching.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Applicants should possess knowledge of volcanic processes and products relevant to Earth and other planetary bodies and experience teaching related topics.
  • Qualified to the relevant level required to teach, or demonstrate equivalent professional/industry experience.

Remuneration

Hourly rate of £69.68 per hour inclusive of the pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay. The rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and includes a duties-related-to-teaching multiplier of 2.5.

Contract

Fixed-term, part-time contract teaching from October to December 2026.
