Birkbeck, University of London, has an excellent opportunity for an Associate Lecturer to join the teaching team on the Certificate of Higher Education, BSc Foundation Year and BA Programmes and support the School of Psychological Sciences this Autumn 2026.
Understanding Applied Cognitive Psychology, Level 4
2 hours of teaching
Monday afternoon 2-4pm, or evenings 6-8pm (Please indicate preference in your application or during interview).
Your role will be to deliver teaching to Birkbeck students, in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully and undertake all related course administrative duties as required. Your main responsibility will be preparation, teaching, administration and assessment of the Understanding Applied Cognitive Psychology module, which is a Level 4 module offered as part of our Certificate of Higher Education, Accelerated Foundation Year and BA programmes.
In addition to the criteria specified in the job pack, the minimum requirements for selection are listed below:
- A degree in Psychology.
- Relevant teaching experience, working with adult students within the HE sector.
- A good understanding of the needs of full and part-time adult learners and be able to relate well to their individual needs and engage their interest and enthusiasm.
- Experience of (or willingness to develop) a wide range of teaching and assessment methods.
- Demonstrably effective communication, interpersonal and presentation skills across a range of relevant contexts.
- A working knowledge of IT including Word, Excel, e-mail and experience of (or willingness to use) Moodle & Teams.
Please note: candidates need to demonstrate competence or significant potential in all areas.

- Postgraduate degree/s in a relevant area
- A teaching qualification

Remuneration:
Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College, starting rate £69.68 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay, for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ at 2.5, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
Contract:
