Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking a Lecturer in Sociology and Public Health to join our vibrant School of Social Sciences and play a pivotal role in shaping the intellectual future of our students. Responsibilities
- Teach and inspire students across various settings, from small tutorials to large lectures, seminars, laboratories and field trips.
- Develop and deliver engaging teaching materials and methods, and convene modules.
- Supervise student projects and provide academic guidance.
- Engage in research activities and contribute to the school's research objectives.
- Participate in outreach and engagement activities.
- Contribute to School administration and management.
Qualifications
- A PhD or equivalent in a relevant field.
- Strong research skills and the ability to attract funding.
- Effective communication and presentation skills.
- Experience in teaching and leading modules at the undergraduate and postgraduate level.
- A commitment to diversity and the ability to engage students from diverse backgrounds.
We would particularly welcome applicants with subject specialisms in Public Health, Sociological Theory, Sociology of Health and Illness, Health across the Lifecourse, and Health Promotion, who have experience of programme leadership, and who come from under-represented groups in academia.
Contract Details

Salary and Benefits
The Lecturer grade of the College's London Pay Scale which is £44,247 rising to £60,858 per annum. Birkbeck offers a competitive salary and pension scheme, 31 days paid leave, flexible working arrangements and some of the most generous benefits in the HE sector, all while being located right in the heart of Central London. The salary quoted is on the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the London area.
