Responsibilities
You will be part of a vibrant team of researchers and contribute to the School through teaching, research and administration. You will lead an internationally recognised research programme focused on an area of environmental or structural geology and apply for external funding to support these activities. You will make a core contribution to BSc programmes in Geology, Environmental Geoscience and Environmental Science, participate in other BSc and MSc programmes related to your area, and supervise undergraduate, MSc and PhD research students, including in the field. You will contribute to the organisation of teaching and research activities within the School, be active in knowledge transfer and public engagement, and support the collaborative culture of the School.
Specifically, you will:

- Have an interest in impact‑generating and public engagement activities.
- Be able to work collegially, with strong interpersonal, organisational and administrative skills, to effectively manage teaching teams.
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to give a research seminar presentation (15‑20 minutes) and attend an interview.
Qualifications
To apply for this role, you must have a PhD in an area relevant to environmental or structural geology that builds on the existing expertise in the School. You must also have a proven record of publishing high‑quality research and demonstrate an aptitude for, and experience in, teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level. In addition you should have an understanding of Birkbeck’s principles of widening participation in higher education and be able to work with mature, part‑time and non‑traditional learners from diverse backgrounds. You should be an active researcher in environmental or structural geology and have experience in the design, delivery and convening of courses at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level relevant to your background.
Remuneration and Benefits
£44,247 rising to £60,858 per annum. Benefits include a competitive salary and pension scheme, 31 days paid leave, flexible working arrangements and generous senior‑level benefits in the higher‑education sector. The position is based in Euston, London.
