We have an exciting opportunity for bioinformatians. Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking a new colleague to join us as a Lecturer in Bioinformatics and expand our teaching and research strengths in this area.
The School of Natural Sciences is looking to appoint an exceptional lecturer in bioinformatics. Key areas of interest include machine learning and deep learning approaches, systems biology, proteomics, and spatial transcriptomics.
Key Responsibilities Lead an internationally recognised research programme focussed on an area of bioinformatics and apply for external funding to support these activities.
Contribute to the MSc Bioinformatics programme and participate in other BSc and MSc programmes related to your area.
Supervise undergraduate, MSc and PhD research students and contribute to the organisation of teaching and research activities within the School.
Be active in knowledge transfer and public engagement and contribute to a range of activities that support the strong collaborative culture of the School.
Be committed to excellence in both research and teaching.
Provide a rich learning experience to students with a wide range of skillsets.
Have an interest in impact generating and public engagement activities.
Work collegially, with strong interpersonal, organisational and administration skills, to effectively manage teaching teams.
Design, deliver and convene courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level relevant to your background.
Qualifications A PhD in an area of bioinformatics or a closely related subject.
Sound working knowledge of R and/or Python.
A proven record of publishing high quality research.
Experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
An understanding of Birkbeck's principles of widening participation in higher education and experience working with mature age, part‐time and non‐traditional learners from a diversity of backgrounds.
Contract and Salary Salary: £44,247 rising to £60,858 per annum. Grade LLEC. 35 hours a week with flexible hours. Permanent, full‐time contract. Visa sponsorship available.
