Birkbeck, University of London, invites applications for a Demonstrator position to join the teaching team in the School of Psychological Sciences, starting Autumn 2026.

Contract Details

  • Salary: £24.55 per hour (inclusive of pro‑rated London Allowance and holiday pay for Grade 6)
  • Contract type: Fixed‑term, part‑time (October to December 2026)
  • Mode: Part‑time, 30 hours of teaching (Tuesday evenings 6‑9 pm)
  • Grade: 6
  • Business Unit: School of Psychological Sciences
  • Closing date: 16 June 2026

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the delivery of predetermined programmes of teaching to Birkbeck Psychological Science students, under academic supervision, facilitating their successful completion.
  • Engage in scholarship to ensure good practice in teaching and apply appropriate levels of knowledge in the subject areas to be taught.
  • Work independently while in parallel with postgraduate studies.

Key Qualifications

  • A first degree in Psychology or an equivalent relevant qualification.
  • Advanced experience in using a range of introductory and advanced statistical techniques and report writing suitable for quantitative psychological science research.
  • Awareness of the needs of part‑time adult learners and ability to engage the interest and enthusiasm of students and inspire them to learn.
  • Confident presentation skills and ability to clearly and effectively pass on specialist subject area knowledge.
  • A good working knowledge of specialist statistical modelling packages such as SPSS.
  • A good level of IT and communication technology skills (Word, Excel, OneDrive, Outlook, Teams, Moodle, general internet usage).
