Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking two Lecturer positions in Law to join our internationally respected Law School, known for its tradition of Critical Legal scholarship, beginning Autumn 2026.

Salary range: £44,247 rising to £60,858 per year. Contract type: Open ended. Mode: Full time. Grade: LLEC. Business Unit: Birkbeck Law School. Closing date for applicants: 27-Feb-2026.

Each post is offered on a permanent contract at Birkbeck, full time 35 hours per week, with a salary of £44,247 rising to £60,858 per year. Teaching hours will vary from 6pm - 9pm, Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching across any of the 7 Foundations of Legal Knowledge, as well as contributing to the curriculum more broadly based on School need and individual expertise.
  • Developing research objectives, projects and proposals (with the assistance of a mentor if required) whilst on academic probation; writing up research work for publication; and identifying sources of funding and contributing to the process of securing funds.
  • Contribute to the leadership and management of the School’s academic activities, as appropriate to your level of seniority (in roles such as admissions tutor; programme director, careers lead, etc.).
  • Employing innovations in teaching and learning, to meet the learning needs of students, through the development of teaching materials, forms of pedagogy, or appropriate teaching collaborations.

Remuneration

£44,247 rising to £60,858 per annum. The salary is Grade LLEC on the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the London area.
