As Lecturer in Creative Writing, you will contribute to a range of modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as bringing expertise in fiction, non-fiction and the publishing industry to the role.

Birkbeck’s School of Creative Arts, Culture and Communication has an internationally-recognised research profile in Creative Writing and English Literature (2nd in REF 2021), and has nurtured numerous students on the path to becoming published authors, so you will be joining a supportive, dedicated and ambitious team.

As Lecturer In Creative Writing, You Will:

  • Teach and inspire students from convening modules to leading workshops and seminars,
  • Develop and deliver engaging teaching materials and methods,
  • Supervise student projects and oversee assessment and programme administration,
  • Participate in outreach and engagement activities, and manage industry connections,
  • Engage in research activities and contribute to the school’s research objectives.

The ideal Lecturer will be a published author, and an active researcher, as well as having:

  • A PhD in Creative Writing (or a related discipline),
  • Experience in programme direction and enhancement,
  • Experience of teaching (undergraduate and postgraduate), as well as administration and pastoral care to support students in successfully completing their studies,
  • Ability to supervise doctoral students,
  • A commitment to diversity and the ability to engage students from diverse backgrounds.

Contract: Open-ended, permanent contract. Full-time, 35 hours per week including daytime attendance and delivering lectures in the evening 6-9pm. Salary And Benefits: £43,636 rising to £60,018 per annum, Grade LLEC, quoted is on the College’s London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the London area.
