Join the Vaghi Lab in the Department of Psychology at Birkbeck, University of London. We are launching a new MRC-funded project that seeks an outstanding researcher to contribute to our understanding of brain circuitry in psychiatric conditions.

Role Summary

  • Design and direction of research questions, focusing on normative modelling and precision functional mapping with dense fMRI sampling.
  • Develop and conduct task paradigms to study developmental trajectories of brain circuits in compulsivity and Obsessive‑Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
  • Independent work in collaboration with PhD students, research assistants, and fellow postdocs.
  • Engage in lab meetings, learn diverse methodologies, and attend national and international conferences annually.
  • Demonstrate readiness for academic leadership, including supervision of junior team members and pursuit of independent research funding.

Qualifications

  • PhD in cognitive neuroscience, psychology, or related discipline (completed or in final stage).
  • Strong background in cognitive neuroscience and neuroimaging with fMRI.
  • Experience in neuroimaging data collection, task design, and programming.
  • Analytical, critical thinking skills and the ability to link brain data to cognitive theories of compulsivity.
  • Track record of published papers, preprints, and conference presentations appropriate to career stage.

Salary and Benefits

From £44,247 to £50,379 per annum, Grade 7 on the College's London Pay Scale, which includes a consolidated London Weighting Allowance. Benefits include a competitive salary & pension scheme, 31 days paid leave, flexible working arrangements, and generous benefits in the higher education sector. The position is located in Bloomsbury, Euston, London.

Contract Details

Fixed‑term, 2‑year contract (subject to extension). Full‑time (35 hours a week). Visa sponsorship offered.
