Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking an Associate Lecturer to join the teaching team and support the School of Natural Sciences in this Autumn 2026. The position is fixed‑term, part‑time (Grade 7), from October 2026 to September 2027. Salary is £69.68 per hour inclusive of pro‑rated London Allowance and holiday pay. Responsibilities:
- Deliver Biology 1 (FFSC011H4, Level 4) – 33 contact hours per week, Friday afternoons 1–4 pm.
- Prepare teaching materials, conduct classes, and assess student performance.
- Manage administrative tasks associated with the course.
- Engage in other teaching‑related duties as needed.
Qualifications:
Applicants should have knowledge of biology and experience teaching foundation‑level students. Candidates must be qualified to the corresponding level of the award required to teach, or possess equivalent professional or industry experience. Please see the person specification for further selection criteria.
Remuneration:
The hourly rate of £69.68 is based on commencement at Grade 7 and includes a Duties‑Related‑to‑Teaching multiplier of 2.5, covering preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties.
Contract Details:
Fixed‑term contract from October 2026 to September 2027 on a part‑time basis. Closing date: Sunday 21 June 2026; interview date: 1 July 2026.
