We are delighted to be offering an exciting opportunity for a Bird Keeper to join the Birdworld team on a permanent and full-time basis, working 38 hours per week including alternate weekends. Pay rate up to £12.71 per hour D.O.E.

Set within 26 acres of beautiful, landscaped gardens, Birdworld is one of the largest bird parks in the country and is home to a diverse collection of species. We are offering a unique career opportunity for a Bird Keeper to join our living collections team. We pride ourselves on our educational and conservation values.

About the Role

Supporting the Aviculture Team Lead, you will focus on the day-to-day husbandry of the diverse aviculture collection, along with other bird keepers and with the support and guidance of senior bird keepers. Key responsibilities include:

  • Working alongside the keeper to implement and develop all things relating to husbandry, diets and training plans within the Bird Team.
  • Working with a wide range of fantastic species including penguins, hornbills, parrots, owls, cranes, flamingos and various softbills.
  • Extensive in-house training as well as opportunities to develop and expand your skills in wider keeper programmes and workshops.

About you

  • Hold an animal related qualification.
  • Have minimum three years’ experience working within a recognised zoological collection, ideally specialising in birds.
  • Have strong communication skills and great time management.
  • Have keen observation skills, basic maintenance skills, and be able to prioritise tasks and juggle responsibilities to ensure the highest standard of care for the collection.
  • Experience in incubation and handrearing techniques, or with Penguin husbandry preferable but not essential.
  • Enjoy, and demonstrate a passion for aviculture, offering exceptional and engaging experiences to our visitors.
  • Enjoy working outside in all weathers.
