The predicted salary is between 38000 - 41000 £ per year.

Location: Head Office, Ascot Drive, Derby, DE24 8GN (occasional travel to retail stores may be required).

Salary: £38,000 – £41,000 per year (depending on experience). The position includes on-call duties with additional pay.

Hours: Monday to Friday, 12:00pm – 9:30pm (45 hours per week).

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, as an Electrically Biased Maintenance Engineer you will play a vital role in maintaining and optimising bakery equipment to support seamless production and retail operations. Working across our main bakery site and retail stores, you will help drive efficiency, uphold safety standards, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Maintenance & Repairs
    • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns across retail shops to minimise operational disruption.
    • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) in line with schedules.
    • Inspect, maintain, and repair electrical and mechanical systems to ensure safe and efficient operation.
    • Take a proactive approach to fault finding, reducing downtime and preventing recurring issues.
    • Maintain accurate maintenance records and daily activity logs.
  • Equipment & Projects
    • Support the installation, testing, and commissioning of new equipment across retail stores and the bakery.
    • Collaborate closely with the projects team on store refits and bakery initiatives.
    • Keep up to date with new technologies and equipment developments.
    • Provide technical expertise and guidance on machinery and equipment as required.
  • Operational Support
    • Provide flexible support across the bakery, including cover for planned and unplanned absences.
    • Work across multiple locations in line with business needs and priorities.
    • Reduce reliance on external contractors by delivering effective in-house engineering support.
    • Work collaboratively with retail teams to resolve issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Compliance & Safety
    • Ensure all work complies with relevant legislation and engineering standards.
    • Adhere to Engineering Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at all times.
    • Promote and uphold Health & Safety and Food Safety best practices across all sites.
    • Conduct inspections to maintain compliance and a safe working environment.
  • Communication & Coordination
    • Keep the Engineering Manager informed of significant issues, risks, and updates.
    • Build strong working relationships with suppliers, contractors, and service partners.
    • Work collaboratively across departments to promote efficiency and teamwork.
  • Experience
    • Strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and perform well under pressure.
    • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and their impact on efficiency, quality, materials, and equipment.
    • Confident communicator, able to engage effectively with colleagues at all levels.
    • Excellent listening skills with a commitment to feedback and continuous improvement.
    • Logical, methodical approach to problem-solving.
    • Proven experience in team leadership and people management.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office, Teams, and ERP systems.
    • Strong analytical and numerical skills with excellent attention to detail.
    • Highly organised, with the ability to prioritise workload effectively.
  • Qualifications
    • Time-served, electrically biased multi-skilled Maintenance Engineer.
    • Previous experience within food production, FMCG, or a similar environment is desirable.
    • 17th or 18th Edition Electrical Qualification (desirable).
    • Experience leading and/or commissioning engineering projects.
    • Knowledge of continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles.
    • Food Hygiene Certificate (minimum Foundation level preferred).
    • Health & Safety qualification such as IOSH Working Safely or equivalent (preferred).
