Account Controller – Own Label/Discounters UK Leeds or Woking – Hybrid | Competitive salary, car allowance, up to 25% bonus and benefits.
Proud to present an opportunity to join our Birds Eye business as an Account Controller for our Own Label / Discounter channel. You’ll have ownership of the Our Own Label business in the UK, working with Discounters and potentially expanding to more in the future. As well as managing a high performing team to support the growth of the channel.
About the role
- A high visibility and varied role managing a multi‑channel, multi‑customer team responsible for +£60m NSV.
- Ownership and leadership of the Own Label and Discounter strategy, execution and activation to deliver the business targets.
- The individual is an experienced Own Label sector leader who is comfortable working cross‑functionally with senior stakeholders externally and internally.
- Inclusive leadership – Responsible for role modelling truly inclusive leadership to ensure diversity is embraced across all aspects of the business unit and visibly advocating across the total business.
- Team leadership – Define clear roles and responsibilities within team, refining in response to customer/channel direction and business need. Coaching and other development strategies to maximise potential and delivery of the team.
- Strategic customer planning – Create & Lead the Own Label Strategy – Define the vision for growth across Nomads core own label categories including Pizza, Yorkshire Puddings, Poultry and Fish. Responsible for developing and embedding a clear 3‑year vision for growth with each customer with a key emphasis on appropriate channel strategies to deliver market outperformance.
- Joint Business Planning – Flowing from the long‑term strategic vision and plan the Account Controller is accountable for leading the development, implementation and delivery of tenders to achieve Birds Eye’s commercial objectives.
- Team control – Responsible for the development and implementation of key control processes across the full team to ensure defined accountability for the delivery of both the internal and external plans and for instilling consistent weekly and monthly control standards across the full business unit.
- Agile performance delivery – Accountable for the identification and implementation of short‑term and medium‑term commercial initiatives to drive and maintain within‑year performance, e.g. customer pricing activity, promotional optimisation, identifying additional customer collaboration activities.
- Negotiation Leadership – Responsible for setting negotiation strategies for the team to maximise returns for Birdseye based on clear principles of conditionality and ensuring support for full team in all key negotiations both internally and externally.
- Cross‑Functional Leadership – As a member of both the Groups Own Label Leadership team, the candidate is responsible for playing an active and visible role across Europe, not only in being the voice of the team but additionally in helping shape wider business strategy development to deliver commercial growth opportunities. Work closely with Culinary, Operational, NPD, RDQ and Marketing teams to create solutions that meet evolving Own Label trends.
About you
- Senior Own Label Commercial/Sales leadership experience, ideally at Controller Level.
- Understanding of the key dynamics in the UK Frozen Own Label.
- Highly developed Commercial understanding of annual customer business planning negotiations.
- Experience of managing the end‑to‑end development of Own Label products, from concept to shelf.
- Team Development – Proven track record of developing individuals and teams through focussed performance management and coaching.
- Collaborative and trusted – representing Birdseye as a Category leader to ensure appropriate influence externally.
- Strategic Thinking – a thought leader who can develop winning strategies for each channel by leveraging Birdseye’s competitive advantage.
- Influencer – Experience of leading teams influencing senior management and cross‑functional teams.
