At Birdie, we’re reimagining care for older adults. We’re building the technology that powers the future of home healthcare, empowering care teams with tools to deliver better, more dignified care, and enabling older people to thrive in their own homes for longer. Our all-in-one solution powers millions of care visits every month, equipping care providers with the tools they need to deliver exceptional, efficient care.
Your mission as Head of Data at Birdie is to turn data into one of Birdie's most powerful competitive advantages, building the platform that powers AI-native product experiences, and creating analytics and intelligence capabilities that give care providers the insights they need to deliver better outcomes for older adults.
With over 1,500 providers and 60 million care visits on the platform, we hold a dataset that is truly unparalleled in the home care sector. The opportunity ahead of us is immense: from predictive care quality intelligence and benchmarking against sector peers, to early warning systems for care deterioration and workforce optimisation insights.
How you will contribute:
- Own and drive our customer-facing analytics product, working closely with the product team to design and ship data features that create real value for care providers.
- Own Birdie's ML data infrastructure, the feature stores, pipelines, and data contracts that make it possible to train, evaluate, and serve AI-powered features reliably in production.
- Lead the modernisation of our data platform, making architectural decisions that ensure it is not just reliable and scalable, but ready to support AI-native products including the data pipelines and infrastructure that power machine learning features across the Birdie platform.
- Act as the strategic link between data capability, AI/ML ambition, and product thinking, ensuring what we build is technically sound, AI-ready, and genuinely useful to the care teams relying on it every day.
- Define and communicate a data strategy that connects platform investment to product outcomes and earns buy-in from senior stakeholders across the business.
- Build and lead a high-performing data team, establishing clear ways of working that protect focus and reduce reactive, ad-hoc demand.
You’ll thrive here if:
- You have designed or materially rebuilt a cloud data platform and can make architectural tradeoffs without needing a technical translator.
- You are deeply comfortable with a modern cloud data stack, have hands-on experience with tools like Snowflake, DBT, and Looker, and can make confident decisions about when to evolve, replace, or retire them.
- You have shipped analytics or data features to external users and understand what it takes to make data trustworthy and useful for non-technical customers.
- You have experience building and owning the data infrastructure that powers machine learning in production including feature stores, training pipelines, model serving data contracts, and you understand the difference between a platform that can support AI and one that merely tolerates it.
- You are excited about the intersection of LLMs, structured care data and product, and can think clearly about how AI capabilities get built responsibly on top of sensitive, real-world data.
- You are equally comfortable presenting a data strategy to leadership and getting into the detail of a data model with your team, and you move quickly between both without losing momentum.
- You have directly managed senior ICs and/or team leads, including navigating both underperformance and over-performance, and can point to a team you've made meaningfully more effective.
- You build alignment through credibility and communication rather than authority, and you enjoy working across product, engineering and commercial teams.
- You are motivated by mission-driven work and want the data you build to ultimately improve the lives of older adults and the care teams who support them.
What you’ll get from us:
- Competitive base salary, reviewed against benchmarks annually.
- Generous stock options.
- Annual personal learning budget and access to training, coaching and mentorship.
- Hybrid working - ideally 2–3 days per week in our incredible London HQ but we're flexible for the right person.
- 33 days holiday (25 days + public holidays).
- Industry leading paid primary and secondary caregiver leave.
- Private health insurance with AXA.
- Cycle to work scheme.
We’re committed to building a diverse team and inclusive culture. That means creating a hiring process that gives everyone a fair chance regardless of background, identity or lived experience.
