The opportunity
We are looking for an experienced trade mark administrator to join our team to support our Middle East practice. We are looking for a trade mark specialist who is a fluent Arabic speaker or someone with in-region experience. You will work within a team environment servicing large multi-national trade mark portfolios and be accustomed to working to tight deadlines with IPOs, overseas law firms/trade mark attorneys, internal and external clients. The role is a full-time role.
This role works closely with our UK and Dubai based colleagues and all communications will be conducted in English and/or Arabic. Previous experience with or knowledge of Intellectual Property particularly Trademarks is required.
The team
Our Intellectual Property team is consistently ranked as band 1 in both Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners. We have one of the largest IP teams in London with c.80 lawyers with unparalleled contentious and non-contentious capabilities in relation to all IP rights; trade marks, patents, copyright and database rights, confidential information and data privacy. We advise on IP protection, enforcement, strategic management, valuation and monetisation of brand portfolios. Because of our broad remit our clients are an eclectic mix of the diverse and traditional. Internationally Bird & Bird has over 350 IP lawyers, attorneys and legal professionals across our 33 offices, meaning we\\\βre all on the same page and offer consistency and quality that runs through all levels of seniority.
What You\\\βll Do
To assist with providing timely, accurate assistance and day-to-day support as part of our Central Services Team to the global Trade Mark and Brand Management practice specifically workflows in the MEA region, which includes
- Supporting the attorneys in their day-to-day trademark work particularly with respect to prosecution and related proceedings in the Middle East and internationally.
- Preparation of forms and related documentation for filing trademarks and design applications; assignments; licences; changes of name and other title details.
- Preparation of instructions to foreign Attorneys and related documentation for filing trade mark and design applications.
- Reviewing and reconciling receipts and certificates against instructions and records.
- Reporting to clients details of new trade mark and design applications, publication notices, and registrations.
- Supporting fee earners in searches β including ordering and organisation of trade mark searches and related search programme administration, report preparation and preliminary research.
- Providing accurate translation of trade mark applications (specifications and registration details) and agent communication in both Arabic and English.
- Trademark and Design Records management β use of the firm\\\βs database to ensure all activity is docketed and able to be audited at all times, including managing own diary of reminders.
- Generating portfolio reports in multiple formats.
- Providing periodical project support, for example in portfolio audits.
- Other duties may be assigned.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- Fluency in Arabic and English.
- Legal experience particularly in the field of Intellectual Property specifically trade marks.
- Good technical document management skills, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, with the ability to take complex documents and present simply and concisely.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with good attention to detail.
- An ability to stay calm in demanding situations in particular when the fee-earners are operating under pressure.
- Strong organisational skills.
- Proven ability to deal with confidential matters.
