The opportunity: We are looking for a mid level Associate to join our Finance & Financial Regulation team in London to work on a wide range of finance transactions including renewable energy financing.

Working as part of a small team will mean significant amounts of responsibility and client contact. We believe the role represents an outstanding opportunity for a bright, entrepreneurial, and ambitious lawyer.

The team

Bird & Bird\’s Finance & Financial Regulation team in London consists of specialist lawyers covering: Acquisition finance; Financial regulation (in particular electronic payments); Islamic finance; Project finance; Real Estate finance; Restructuring and Insolvency; and Venture Debt finance. Our deep sector knowledge in sport, renewables and technology makes us particularly well placed to advise clients on financing in these areas.

Your responsibilities

Your work will include advising financial institutions (banks, development banks, funds and alternative lenders) and borrowers on a wide range of lending work, including bilateral bank lending work, acquisition finance, real estate finance, project finance (with an emphasis on renewable energy projects), cross border financings, bank lending work in emerging markets (North Africa and CEE/SEE jurisdictions), venture debt and asset finance.

About you

We are looking for a banking lawyer who is technically excellent and with the ability to apply their legal skills in a practical way. Candidates should have solid post qualification experience gained in the banking/finance practice of a leading Firm.

Essential

  • Experience of handling transactions gained within a comparable environment and at an appropriate level.
  • A desire to work for a truly international Firm.
  • Flexibility, supporting a broad range of debt transactions.
  • The ability to manage aspects of complex matters/transactions and clients.
  • Knowledge of key areas of the law by providing clear, precise, practical advice.

  • Excellent academic achievement.
  • Delegation and supervisory skills where appropriate.
  • Interest in working in a challenging, team-based environment.
  • The willingness and ability to support business development activity, creating and maintaining strong client relationships and identifying new business opportunities.

Working hours and miscellaneous

The main responsibilities of this role are outlined above; however, this description is not exhaustive, and the job holder may be required to undertake additional duties from time to time to ensure the smooth running of the department. The role may require some working outside our normal working hours of 9:30am-5:30pm.
