Birchwell Associates is partnering with a leading data centre operator to appoint a Datacentre Manager for a flagship site in Farnborough. This is a senior position with full responsibility for operational performance, client engagement, and the management of critical infrastructure within a high-availability environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage on-site operations, ensuring 24/7 uptime and service excellence
  • Oversee third-party providers across mechanical, electrical, and security services
  • Manage and develop a team of engineers and technicians, driving performance and accountability
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, including during incidents and service disruptions
  • Ensure all maintenance, compliance, and health & safety standards are met
  • Drive continuous improvement across operations, processes, and service delivery
  • Manage budgets, forecasting, and cost optimisation initiatives
  • Oversee capacity planning and infrastructure lifecycle management

Requirements

  • 5+ years experience in data centre operations, with at least 2-3 years in a leadership or management role
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical & electrical (M&E) infrastructure within critical environments
  • Proven experience managing third-party suppliers, contracts, and SLAs
  • Demonstrated experience in team leadership, performance management, and staff development
  • Experience with budget management, forecasting, and cost control (OPEX/CAPEX)
  • Familiarity with BMS systems and infrastructure monitoring/reporting tools
  • Solid understanding of IT infrastructure and networking fundamentals
  • Strong client-facing experience with the ability to manage stakeholders during incidents and escalations
  • Excellent communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder presentations

Desirable

  • Degree in Engineering, IT, or a related field
  • CDCP / CDCMP certification
  • ITIL Foundation (or similar)
  • Formal management qualification
