Birchwell Associates is partnering with a leading data centre operator to appoint a Datacentre Manager for a flagship site in Farnborough. This is a senior position with full responsibility for operational performance, client engagement, and the management of critical infrastructure within a high-availability environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage on-site operations, ensuring 24/7 uptime and service excellence
- Oversee third-party providers across mechanical, electrical, and security services
- Manage and develop a team of engineers and technicians, driving performance and accountability
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, including during incidents and service disruptions
- Ensure all maintenance, compliance, and health & safety standards are met
- Drive continuous improvement across operations, processes, and service delivery
- Manage budgets, forecasting, and cost optimisation initiatives
- Oversee capacity planning and infrastructure lifecycle management
Requirements
- 5+ years experience in data centre operations, with at least 2-3 years in a leadership or management role
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical & electrical (M&E) infrastructure within critical environments
- Proven experience managing third-party suppliers, contracts, and SLAs
- Demonstrated experience in team leadership, performance management, and staff development
- Experience with budget management, forecasting, and cost control (OPEX/CAPEX)
- Familiarity with BMS systems and infrastructure monitoring/reporting tools
- Solid understanding of IT infrastructure and networking fundamentals
- Strong client-facing experience with the ability to manage stakeholders during incidents and escalations
- Excellent communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder presentations
Desirable
- Degree in Engineering, IT, or a related field
- CDCP / CDCMP certification
- ITIL Foundation (or similar)
- Formal management qualification
