We are recruiting for a client-facing Data Centre Engineer to support the day-to-day operation of a secure, high-availability data centre environment based in Farnborough. This role offers hands-on exposure to critical infrastructure, close interaction with customers, and the opportunity to support complex IT environments within a growing technical operation.
The Role
You will be part of an on-site engineering team responsible for maintaining the performance, availability, and security of business-critical systems. The role blends technical delivery with customer service, requiring a practical mindset and strong communication skills. You will support live environments, respond to incidents and service requests, and assist with new deployments while working within defined operational and security procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Support daily operations of the data centre in line with established processes and best practice
- Monitor infrastructure systems and respond to alerts and incidents promptly
- Manage incidents, changes, and service requests via a ticketing/helpdesk platform
- Install and maintain server racks, hardware, and structured cabling
- Deliver responsive, high-quality remote hands support to customers within SLA
- Install and manage cross-connects in accordance with documented patching plans
- Receive and manage equipment deliveries, including inventory tracking and logistics
- Liaise with external technical and mechanical service providers as required
- Carry out general operational and ad hoc data centre tasks
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule
About You
This is a customer-facing position, so you'll be confident, organised, and comfortable working directly with a wide range of stakeholders. You'll ideally have:
- Experience working in a data centre or critical infrastructure environment
- Strong understanding of physical server hardware and installations
- Good working knowledge of structured cabling standards and practices
- Experience using ticketing or service desk systems
- A proactive, hands-on attitude with a desire to learn and develop
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Solid general IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications
Desirable Experience
- Exposure to data centre operational practices
- Structured cabling design or deployment experience
- Familiarity with monitoring or building management systems
- Basic understanding of networking (switching, routing)
- Awareness of power, cooling, and resilience concepts within critical environments
Additional Information
- Applicants must live within 30 minutes of the Farnborough site
- Successful candidates must be able to pass high-level security vetting
- This role is fully site-based and includes participation in an on-call rota
