We are working on behalf of a global insurer who require an experienced Risk Consultant tasked with updating and embedding the firm's risk management systems. Following a recent group review of the two existing company risk management systems, the feedback was clear that the quality of the data needs to be improved and updated. This individual is needed for a 12-month period on a fixed-term contract basis. The majority of the work can be completed remotely with occasional office attendance.

Purpose of the role:

  • To undertake the updating and embedding of the existing risk management system to enable the firm to manage its operational risks, including conduct risk, and adhering to Consumer Duty requirements.
  • Ensuring that the business adheres to Group Operational Risk Control System policy and guideline requirements.
  • Being a point of contact for the first line Risk Champions to ensure that the activities required to meet Group requirements are undertaken within the prescribed deadlines.
  • Assisting in setting the standards for risk management and promoting a risk-centric culture within the business.
  • Demonstrating a high work ethic and possessing core knowledge and skills to support Risk Management objectives.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with the Head of Risk & Compliance and Senior Risk Manager.
  • Undertake the required training for the two bespoke risk management systems.
  • Work closely with the Business Process Manager through the scoping and mapping phases.
  • Work closely with the Risk Champions to review the risks and controls data and update in line with the Group Risk requirements into the risk management system.
  • Provide the necessary support and guidance in identifying risks and controls. Where risks are outside of process they are recorded in the Op Risk Questionnaire.
  • Support the Risk Champions through the assessment stage by providing oversight and guidance on the assessment.
  • Ensure that in both systems relevant approvals are obtained.
  • Ensure the relevant work in both systems is completed within prescribed deadlines.
  • Write up procedure documents for both systems.
  • Provide any training necessary to Process Owners and Risk Champions as part of the hand-off process.
  • Assist in any ad hoc requests relating to the two system requirements.
  • Ensure Operational Risk Control System feedback has been fulfilled.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Previous experience in embedding risk management systems within the insurance sector.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Risk Management Cycle.
  • Experience with risk analysis and reporting.
  • Analytical mind with problem-solving aptitude.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • A proactive approach to work, in terms of suggesting changes and improvements to processes and systems.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to understand broad business issues.
  • Understanding of the Managing General Agent model specifically in relation to risk management would be advantageous.
