The predicted salary is between 50000 - 65000 £ per year.

Based from either our Preston or Manchester office, but with travel across our regional offices you will be responsible for the secure and effective operation of all computer and telephone systems, related applications, hardware and software that is used within the business and its ~150 users. You will be comfortable adopting a hands-on approach when required as well as being able to shape and scope the department strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Support
  • Demonstrate knowledge working within environments that utilise the following systems and processes:
  • Multiple IT-linked offices
  • Cloud IP Telephony
  • Microsoft technologies (including Windows Workstation, Server, SQL Server and Azure)
  • Virtualisation (Hyper-V and Azure; VMware would be advantageous)
  • Cloud systems and their management (Azure, Microsoft 365 and Intune)
  • Networking and Firewalls (including IP, switches, VLANs, VPNs, firewalls, etc.)
  • Thin client technology (Remote Desktop Services (RDS))
  • Security systems (including endpoint protection, MDR, email security, etc.)
  • Understanding of Storage Area Networks (HP Nimble in use)
  • Understanding of client management and financial systems (MatterSphere Business Application and Indigo are used at present but are being replaced by ActionStep)
  • Stringent data protection requirements (experience with GDPR and Cyber Essentials)
  • PCI requirements
  • IT Project Work and Continuous Improvement Plan
    • Work with the Board to identify current and future business requirements and develop strategies which deliver these appropriately and efficiently.
    • Identify and recommend any improved systems and methods of working practices, which may enhance quality and reduce costs.
    • Develop, build and maintain close and productive relationships with both internal stakeholders and external strategic partners.
    • Develop a strategy to enhance and secure Birchall Blackburn Law’s IT requirements.
    • Understand legislation that impacts IT (DPA/GDPR, DDA) and report recommendations to the Board.
    • Plan and manage appropriate IT projects, delivering on time and within budget.
  • Training
    • Manage the provision of IT systems and application training to assist in the development of all Birchall Blackburn Law employees.
    • Mentor and train all new staff to ensure they are able to utilise the internal systems.
  • Process Development
    • Create and deliver reports against support SLAs and KPIs and implement improvement reviews to ensure the level of IT support is continuously improved.
    • Carry out analysis into causes of technical issues and produce permanent solutions with the appropriate teams.
    • Keep up to date with the latest technologies.
  • Management duties and responsibilities
    • Review aspects/areas for improvement with all practice/processes, and those within the area of responsibility.
    • Ensure communication takes place both upwards and downwards across the area of responsibility.
    • Have knowledge and understanding of and be able to apply the Company’s Human Resource Policies, supported by the HR Manager as appropriate.
    • Direct, control, motivate, mentor and develop all IT staff.
    • Ensure that all members of staff are treated equally and fairly.
