Summary of role

We are looking for a Senior Consultant specialising in climate to join our Sustainable Transition Strategy team. The successful candidate will advise and implement climate products and services so that clients can understand and elevate their climate ambition and performance, and will help guide clients toward our implementation and value creation services. You will join a dedicated climate strategy team whose client portfolios span a diverse range of industries, from carbon-immature SMEs to well-known sustainability-aligned brands. Key sectors include: manufacturing, construction and real estate, and private equity.

Responsibilities

  • You lead the delivery of consultancy services with a focus on climate strategy, net zero frameworks and implementation needs.
  • Core service areas include:
    • Net zero target setting under the SBTi Corporate Standard, and relevant sector guidance, in particular Forest Land and Agriculture (FLAG), Buildings, and Financial Institution guidance applied to private equity.
    • Costed decarbonisation roadmaps and climate strategy development.
    • Supporting clients to develop credible Climate Transition Plans.
    • Providing strategic advice and analytical services around wider climate-related needs such as GHG accounting, disclosure requirements and climate risk management.
    • Working alongside BIP.Verco’s engineering, data and change management teams to provide holistic sustainable transition support to clients.
  • You are also responsible for targeted business development and supporting service development and marketing activities.

The role is flexible in location but will be primarily based in one of our three UK offices (Bath, London, Chorley). Some travel to client and BIP.Verco offices may be required; international work would largely be virtual.

How you contribute

  • Account management: You maintain strong relationships with our existing clients and build new relationships to win further work including cross-selling of other services.
  • Project Management: You manage a range of projects concurrently, ensuring successful delivery to the client on time, to quality and within an agreed budget.
  • Technical input: You track the evolving requirements of net zero frameworks applicable to a broad range of sectors, notably: manufacturing, construction and real estate, and private equity.
  • Business development and proposal writing: You are actively engaged in developing business, by increasing the value of existing accounts or working on targeted business development activities, in line with the Sector Sales leads, including writing proposals and delivering webinars.
  • Client management: You maintain strong relationships with existing clients and build lasting relationships with new clients with the expectation of continuing and, where possible, increasing revenues from key accounts.
  • Strategic Service Development: You work with the Head of Service to develop BIP.Verco’s services in line with changes to the sector, policy, the economy, etc. to ensure they remain competitive.
  • External champion for service: You promote Verco’s services via networking externally to bring in new clients and gain repeat work from existing clients. Contributing to BIP.Verco thought leadership, service innovation, marketing materials, and product development.
  • Operational: You provide timely responses to operational needs including (but not limited to) invoicing, reviews, project management information, time-sheeting, health & safety, etc.
  • As a Senior Consultant there will also be an expectation to share knowledge to support the development of junior team members.
  • Environmental: You contribute to BIP.Verco’s sustainability targets and internal CSR team objectives when required.

What you bring

Education, qualifications & training

  • Essential: Degree (or equivalent) in engineering, geography, economics, sciences, environmental, or equivalent and relevant areas demonstrating qualitative and quantitative skills.
  • Desirable: Master’s or relevant post-graduate qualification. Member of professional institutions e.g. ISEP Project Management qualification i.e. APMP.

Employment experience

  • Essential: Experience in a sustainability or business consultancy environment. Managing projects/programmes, project teams & delivering to deadlines. Key account management and new business development with clients. Managing bids and bid teams and delivering proposals to deadlines.
  • Desirable: Advising clients on strategic risks and opportunities, such as policy impact assessments or risks and opportunity appraisals. Financial services, such as financial planning, accounting, data analysis, valuation, or financial reporting within an investment or corporate context.

Knowledge & understanding

  • Essential: An understanding of global climate science, international decarbonisation pathways, and the practical application of net zero frameworks, including working knowledge of SBTi, GHG Protocol, and/or PCAF alignment. Experience in one or more of our key client sectors: manufacturing, construction and real estate, and private equity.
  • Desirable: GHG accounting of complex value chains, in particular scope 3. Exposure to financial services, enterprise risk management, or change management. Climate science, including resilience and adaptation planning, and quantitative climate scenario modelling.

Skills & competencies

  • Essential: A genuine passion for sustainability and an interest in being at the forefront of climate advisory. Analytical approach and experience with working with large data sets. The ability to work autonomously, manage multiple priorities, and bring intellectual curiosity to a range of project types and client sectors. Effective communication skills to engage confidently with senior client stakeholders, as well as to manage internal workloads and collaborate across teams. A professional and adaptable manner, able to represent BIP.Verco credibly across a range of client environments. High level of competence in the use of IT, including Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
  • Desirable: Working knowledge of Microsoft Power Queries/Power BI and other Office 365 products AI tools and their practical application in sustainability and consulting workflows, including data analysis, deliverable structuring, project management, and client reporting.
