The Opportunity
A vacancy has arisen at PCS Limited, part of the BioticNRG Group, for a Health & Safety Manager to provide health and safety guidance and support our HGV and Agricultural workshops along with Poultry cleaning and Haulage businesses. The Health & Safety Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the company complies with health and safety laws and that we provide a safe system of work.
As a Health & Safety Manager you will identify hazards and opportunities for improving conditions and execute various safety programs. The ability to communicate guidelines to a multidisciplinary workforce is essential. The role is a practical one, and you will be expected to assist the teams with completion of Health & Safety systems and documentation.
The role will include the following:
- Health & Safety Management
- Develop, implement and continually review the Company's Health & Safety Management System.
- Ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and all associated regulations.
- Monitor changes in legislation and implement any necessary updates across the business.
- Review and develop company Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Create a positive health and safety culture.
- Chair the company’s existing H&S committee.
- Risk Management
- Prepare, review and update Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
- Work closely with operational managers to produce RAMS and for activities undertaken across the business.
- Ensure suitable control measures are implemented and regularly reviewed.
- Provide practical advice on risk reduction and safe systems of work.
- Site Audits & Inspections
- Carry out planned health and safety inspections across all sites and operations.
- Conduct formal compliance audits and monitor corrective actions.
- Complete Fire Risk Assessments for each site and monitor completion of improvement actions.
- Identify unsafe acts, unsafe conditions and opportunities for improvement.
- Incident Management
- Investigate accidents, incidents and dangerous occurrences.
- Monitor and promote near miss reporting.
- Identify root causes and implement preventative actions.
- Produce investigation reports and present findings where required.
- Training & Culture
- Deliver health and safety inductions, toolbox talks and refresher training.
- Develop health and safety awareness throughout the business.
- Coach managers to improve ownership of health and safety responsibilities.
- Promote behavioural safety initiatives and employee engagement.
- Compliance & Reporting
- Produce monthly Health & Safety reports for the Board.
- Monitor health and safety KPIs and analyse trends.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, audits, incidents and training.
- Liaise with external regulators, insurers and enforcement agencies where required.
- PPE & Equipment
- Assess PPE requirements across all operations.
- Recommend appropriate PPE standards.
- Monitor compliance with PPE requirements.
- Inspect equipment, machinery and working practices to identify unsafe conditions.
- General
- Provide professional health and safety advice to all departments.
- Support operational managers during new projects, operational changes and process improvements.
- Undertake any additional duties appropriate to the role.
Experience/Requirements
- Proven experience as Health & Safety manager.
- Excellent understanding of legal health and safety guidelines.
- Ability to produce reports and developing relevant policies, risk assessments and method statements.
- Willingness to be hands on in preparing RAMS and other company policies in conjunction with site managers.
- Excellent organisational and motivational skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal abilities.
- BSc/BA in safety management or relevant field is preferred.
- Valid qualification in occupational health and safety (such as NEBOSH or CMIOSH).
Location
Woodhall Spa but travel to our and customer sites will be expected.
