The Opportunity: We have an exciting opportunity for two Chemistry Production Technicians to join the team in Cardiff. As a Chemistry Production Technician, you will play a key role in the safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacture of chemically formulated media such as sorbents, resins, and other chromatography materials used in the production of chromatography columns and related products at Biotage. Working within a small, hands‑on chemical manufacturing team, you will operate production equipment, follow established batch processes and procedures, and ensure materials are produced to meet strict quality, safety, and compliance standards. Due to the nature of the chemical processes involved, a strong grounding in chemistry is essential for this role.

What you will be doing:

  • Manufacture chemically formulated media (including sorbents, resins, and related chromatography materials), operating production equipment safely and effectively through setup, execution, monitoring, and shutdown of batch manufacturing processes.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), production methods, and safety protocols with accuracy and consistency, and support updates or improvements to SOPs and manufacturing documentation where required.
  • Complete production records accurately and maintain compliant, audit‑ready documentation throughout all stages of the manufacturing process.
  • Carry out in‑process quality control checks, identifying, documenting and escalating deviations or non‑conformances where necessary.
  • Support cleaning, maintenance and readiness of production equipment and work areas to ensure safe and compliant operations.
  • Assist with troubleshooting production issues and contribute to root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities focused on yield, efficiency, and process robustness.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the production team, sharing knowledge and supporting team capability development where appropriate.

What you’ll bring:

  • A-levels or a degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline – a degree in Chemistry is strongly preferred due to the technical and safety‑critical nature of the role.
  • Proven experience working in a hands‑on chemical production, formulation, or similarly controlled manufacturing environment.
  • An understanding of chemical processes, batch manufacturing principles, or formulated materials (such as sorbents, resins, coatings, or similar products) would be an advantage.
  • Experience working in a regulated or quality‑controlled environment, with focus on accurate documentation and procedural compliance.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, consistent work.
  • Good organisational, problem‑solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a small production team.
  • A proactive approach to learning, continuous improvement, and maintaining safety and quality standards.
  • Flexible and adaptable, with a positive attitude toward changing production priorities.
