As an Associate Biology Lecturer, you will have the opportunity to impart your expertise, foster a deep understanding of laboratory techniques, and mentor the next generation of scientists. This role includes allocated time for CPD and conference attendance plus research grant writing to further your own research career.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teaching (23 weeks per year or 230 learners per year)
Provide teaching of mammalian cell culture, ELISA, Western Blotting, Microbiology or PCR techniques as required using a variety of pedagogical techniques such as small group teaching, practical work, student-centered learning, building on prior learning, skills and experience, individual activity, assessment for learning and questioning. - Administration and Pastoral Work (23 days per year)
Complete assessments of students in line with company policies and the relevant qualification body guidelines. Contribute to formative and summative feedback and tasks related to student’s work. Provide pastoral support and references to students during and after courses. Contribute to student admissions processes including interviews and selection panels. - Curriculum Development and Quality Assurance (30 days per year)
Create and update written course materials and assessments, so they are fit for purpose and where necessary, conform to the regulations of awarding bodies. Engage with feedback on teaching to enhance quality. Adopt reflective pedagogical practices and share learnt experiences with the team to improve delivery and assessment. Attend standardization and moderation meetings as and when required. Work with the Quality Assurance Manager to ensure the quality of course materials including assessments. Ensure that course equipment has been tested and any problems addressed so that courses are fit for purpose. - External Lectures (22 days per year)
Deliver lectures at schools and universities to promote courses and research. - Attend External Conferences
Lecturers are encouraged to prepare grant submissions to further their own research work. Additional income will permit reduction in teaching hours, increase in salary and career development in other areas.
