  • Overview Description

Serves as the single point of accountability for end-to-end asset success.

Primary liaison with executive management and the ET Business Unit on the asset strategy and has overall accountability to executive management for the integrated asset strategy.

Acts as the asset champion and leads the cross-functional team of functional leaders that together develop and execute the integrated asset strategy.

Expected to drive decision-making forward, facilitate cross-functional collaboration, and ensure that the asset strategy aligns with Bio Marin’s enterprise goals.

Commits to developing and facilitating the strategic conversations that advance the asset—both within the Asset Team and across the organization.

Leads with urgency towards the attainment of key milestones and adherence to the path that optimally balances risk and value creation.

Commits to establishing a culture of inclusivity and collaboration—and to proactively facilitating and integrating the cross-functional dialogue needed to develop the integrated asset strategy and compelling recommendations that will enable confident executive-level decision-making.

Does so in a way that is optimal and objective, critically analyzing strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning
  • Ensures the integrated asset strategy is closely connected to ET Business Unit priorities, commercial objectives, and portfolio trade-offs.
  • Leads the development and execution of the integrated asset strategy, ensuring alignment with Bio Marin’s enterprise objectives, to maximize an asset’s potential for patients and value proposition for Bio Marin
  • Shapes the strategy across the asset lifecycle, from development to commercialization & the lifecycle post initial launch (e. g., next-generation products)
  • Drives critical decision-making by proactively communicating strategic challenges and opportunities as new relevant information emerges
  • Ensures integrated stage gate plans are aligned with the integrated asset strategy and ensures assumptions and drivers are aligned with plans to inform financial planning
  • Sets aspirational goals for timelines and budget
  • Partners with functional leaders to ensure appropriate resource allocation to accomplish goals
  • Provides continuity of leadership across key transitions and decision points throughout the asset lifecycle
  • Ensure potential risks/trade-offs are identified and contingency planning with a solutions’ focused mindset
  • Operational Execution
  • Partners with the ET Business Unit to ensure execution plans reflect business priorities, market realities, and lifecycle value opportunities.
  • Embeds an asset-first mindset into daily operations to define priorities and resource allocation in collaboration with functional leaders
  • Represents the asset in Governance, Portfolio Reviews, and ET Business Unit discussions.
  • Supports critical deliverables to maximize the value of the asset, including clinical study strategy and design, LCM prioritization of potential indications and combinations, formulation and delivery mechanism strategy, regulatory strategy, treatment landscape and patient journey assessment, Target Product Profile (especially in relation to asset therapies in the market), and global launch strategy, inclusive of market sequencing
  • Engages the right partners and external stakeholders by being the voice of the asset to the external world
  • With support from Pipeline Commercialization Strategy (PCS) and Competitive Intelligence (CI), aligns early development to ensure commercial viability or drives decision to stop development of the asset
  • Resolves business and technical challenges (e. g., formulation/CMC optimization) in partnership with key SMEs
  • Directs KPIs and goal setting for the Asset Team as a whole
  • Ensures that Asset Team acts with a sense of urgency in the execution of the Integrated Asset Strategy, including timely and effective decision-making through Asset Team or through functional leaders or executive management/Governance, as appropriate
  • Ensures alignment of asset strategy/plan/execution with management expectations and priorities
  • Leads team in developing Strategic Deliverables to support the Integrated Asset Strategy
  • Primary source for information as needed for external communications (press releases, investor related, etc.)
  • Reviews health authority-related documents and ensures consistency with strategic objectives for the program
  • Team Effectiveness
  • Creates effective connectivity between the Asset Team and the ET Business Unit to ensure transparency, alignment, and timely escalation of business-critical decisions.
  • Fosters a collaborative cross-functional environment to ensure a high-functioning and high-performing Asset Team
  • Works closely with Program Management and functional leads to ensure Strategic Deliverables necessary to inform IAS are funded, initiated, tracked, and completed on time
  • Ensures cross functional partnerships and resources are leveraged effectively, and with accountability, to achieve program objectives
  • Drives collaboration and transparency across all functions on the Asset Team and challenges team members to be broad and inclusive in their strategy planning
  • Resolves conflicts at the Asset Team, provide and receive feedback to develop and maintain a high performing team
  • Builds 1:1 relationships to establish trust, open communication channels, and improve productivity
  • Weighs in on Asset Team member performance management
